Oy Arne Stara Ab started dealing with trailer axles in 1963. Sometimes the idea for a business plan will come at the right time but in an unexpected place. While touring the US on the Greyhound-buses in the early 1960ies, Arne Stara was amazed by the smooth and comfortable ride, even on longer distances across the country. At the time in his native Finland, taking a ride on the bus would be an unpleasant experience where your endurance was tested. Having had experience from various transportation-orientated fields, tyre sales in particular, Arne knew the present situation in availability and demand for spare-parts in Finland. Recognising an improvement in comfort and curious about the composition of the American-made buses, he simply kneeled down and went under a coach during one of the bus stops. It would be the first time he encountered the air suspension system. Some time later a fair was held at Hannover in Germany. Visiting that fair, Arne discovered an European manufacturer for air suspension systems, systems which resembled those on the buses in the US. This particular manufacturer was a German company, Sauer Achen Fabrik (SAF), which held a licensed air suspension system. His interest in the transportation business and recognition of a field in demand, led Arne Stara to begin importing both axles and suspensions to Finland. Along the years new encounters have been made and the business has expanded. Needless to say, every now and then, while travelling the country, Arne jumps on a bus and seen where it will take him.
Oy Arne Stara Ab started to grow in the axle-sector during the years of 1975-76, after which it grew rather rapidly. An office and a conjoining warehouse was built in 1979, but the complex has been enlarged several times, now measuring roughly 2500 sq. meters. Finland: Sweden: Trailax Ab |
